My journey to Egypt began long before I set foot in Cairo. The opportunity to document a group of dentists was never something I anticipated, nor did I expect it to change the way I understand dentistry itself. How do you explain to a child with special needs that they must endure pain in order to be relieved of it? It takes compassion, steady hands, and resolve to move through resistance and pain toward healing—an experience that feels, in many ways, like a near-perfect metaphor for life.

I had assumed dentistry was largely cosmetic. What I witnessed instead was a group of individuals, guided by faith and prayer, demonstrating care, patience, and love in a way that is rarely seen. There were countless moments I captured—some by accident, others so small they might have gone unnoticed if I hadn’t been paying attention. My journey to Egypt became a quiet reminder of what’s possible when we act in service of others through faith and agape love.
